Making complex market data easier to understand at a glance.

About the client

Nedbank Investor Relations need to communicate a significant amount of information, from live and historical share performance to market indices, share codes and investment calculations.

Project Overview

Design a dashboard for Nedbank’s Investor Relations data feed, bringing key market and share information into a clear, accessible and easy-to-navigate experience.

The Challenge

A lot of data. Not a lot of time.

The challenge was to create an interface that could accommodate this complexity without feeling overwhelming.

The dashboard needed to make the most important information immediately visible while still allowing users to explore more detailed data when needed.

The Outcome

Complexity made clearer by showing different data with one visual language.

The final concept brings Nedbank’s investor information into a single, cohesive dashboard experience.

By combining a strong information hierarchy with modular widgets, clear data visualisation and focused interactive tools, the design makes complex financial information easier to scan, understand and explore.

More importantly, the solution establishes a flexible visual system that can grow alongside the information and functionality available to investors.

My approach was to design around the information, not decoration.

I approached the dashboard as a modular system of widgets, data visualisations and interactive tools, each designed around a specific investor need.

Rather than presenting everything with equal visual weight, the experience uses hierarchy, grouping and progressive detail to help users understand where to look first and what they can explore next.

The result is a dashboard that feels structured and approachable, even when presenting complex financial information.

Responsive design brings market information where you need it.

Financial data needs to remain understandable across different screen sizes.

The responsive experience was therefore considered as part of the system rather than as an adaptation of the desktop layout.

Widgets, graphs and controls were designed to reflow appropriately across devices while maintaining the hierarchy and context of the information.

Data visualisation, turning the numbers into something you can read.

Charts and graphs play a central role in the experience, helping investors move beyond individual figures and understand performance over time.

The interface was designed to make changing values, trends and historical performance easier to interpret, with controls that allow users to explore the information relevant to them.

Particular attention was given to legibility, hierarchy, spacing and interaction states, ensuring that the visualisations remained useful rather than simply adding more information to the screen.

A modular widget system designed for personalisation and scale.

Designing the dashboard using a modular widget system will allow users to personalise their dashboard by arranging the widgets most relevant to them, while the flexibility of the framework enables the bank to easily introduce new widgets and capabilities as the platform evolves.
